I'm running out of space on my hard drive!!!!!!! Thanks for any help you
can give me on both questions!

It rather depends - do you want to convert to DVD structure so you can
play on a stand-alone DVD player, not just on your PC? In that case,
it'll require time to convert and, of course, a whole lot of disk
space, depending on how large the AVI videos are. Eg, an 800 meg
typical 90-120 min novie, full DVD quality rip, will about double or
even triple in size to get it fully compliant for DVD structure &
burning. For that, I'd recommend the last freeware version of VSO's
DivXToDVD [recently changed names and new name, ConvertXToDVD, is
shareware].

If all you want is just to burn, then any decent freeware burner should
work just fine, like BurnAtOnce, EasyBurning, and the above-mentioned
CDBurnerXP. Lots of other decent freeware CD-DVD burners, so have a
look around.

If you need more info on AVI's and burning, I'd recommend:
www.videohelp.com or afterdawn.com

Lots of excellent tutorials, and links to VSO's DivXToDVD, etc.

do you want to view these movies on another dvd player ?

Yes and watch them on the Big Screen T.V. I have 300 gigs of stuff and I'm
looking for a program which will allow me to put a 700 mg avi on one disc.
Sorry, but I'm serious about the sleep mode thing. Thanks for the help and
the laughs!

I have a platter that is a music CD on one side and a video DVD on the
other. I want to make an ISO of each side individually to store on hard
drive in case the platter gets scratched. That way I should be able to make
a backup. I have Nero that came with my DVD burner as well as Sonic. I
also have a couple freeware burners.
