After a few weeks trying to figure out what went wrong with an upgrade from
XP Home to XP Pro
http://home.comcast.net/~tdcarp/documents/Log.pdf
I may be faced with a full install. Having never done that before I could
use a little advice.
The upgrade CD appears to have good instructions on how to do this (and I've
gotten some links via the MSFT forums), but, as long as I have to do this I
want to make sure I do it right.
First, the upgrade disk has two options for the install (upgrade and new
installation). I started down the new install path and stopped a couple
steps in. The instructions for a new install say to boot off the CD. Where
is the new install on the cd going to take me?
Next, I'm assuming everything I've installed or created in the past is going
to be wiped out including all apps and therefore everything is going to have
to be restored. True?
Finally, there is some discussion about installing in a separate partition.
I assume that is something I do NOT want to do (simply because there is no
reason to). Right?
To prepare I made a list of all the apps that show up in Add/Remove
Programs. I have the computer name and workgroup. What else should I write
down before starting?
Should I contact all the apps vendors (particularly those where I chose not
to get a CD) to make sure I can get through this easily?
Any other advice, including "as long as you're doing that..." stuff would be
greatly appreciated.
