Need a complete backup program.

I want to do a complete backup of my c drive not just the file but
everything. I would like to burn a cd and restore it to its orginal
state.

I tryed out TrueImage but that only had a 15day trail, it did what I
wanted it to do but I just can not afford to buy it.

I would rather prefer a graphic interface rather then command line.

So does anyone know of a program like this I have looked at lot of
program but all I have looked at only do files or folders not complete
drive.

As far as I know, no really good mirror image backup program with
a graphical interface exists for free. Don't know why. Must be
harder to write one than you'd think. I wish someone like Steve
Gibson would write one as a public service. He's write it in
assembly code and it would be around 30K in size. Probably take
him an afternoon.

Unlike typical backup programs that copy files, DrvImagerXP makes
backups (image files) of NTFS and FAT32 drive partition structures (as
well as floppy disks), for the Windows 2000/XP operating systems, by
copying, byte-for-byte, the drive partition sectors. And when not using
file compression, can do this very quickly, much faster than copying
files.

You'll never have to install your operating system again! You can
install it, make all your option changes and get it just right, then use
DrvImagerXP to create a partition image that you could name "Fresh
Install". If you need to go back to a brand new fresh installation of
your operating system, you can restore the partition using the "Fresh
Install" image in just a few minutes.

You can make partition images of different operating systems and swap
them in and out at will!

Save floppy disk images for faster copying, or for archives.

Save the image file as multiple zipped files.

Span an image file over multiple CDs/DVDs.

Though not as powerful and flexible as "Drive Image" or "Ghost" drive
imaging programs, the simplicity, yet powerful capabilities of
DrvImagerXP make it the favorite choice for many.

DrvImagerXP is freeware! Pass it around! Give it to your friends! Let me
know what you think of it!

The backup image file is an exact reproduction of the entire drive
partition.

DrvImagerXP takes a snapshot of your drive partition, saving every
aspect of that partition, so later if you want your partition exactly
like it was the moment you took that snapshot, you can restore it back
to that point in time in minutes, much faster than with file backups.

Partition Saving is a DOS program that is used to save, restore and copy
hard-drive, partitions, floppy disk and DOS devices.

With this program you could save all data on a partition to a file (such
as you could save this file on a CD for example). Then if something goes
wrong, you can completely restore the partition from the backup file.
You no longer have to reinstall every piece of software from scratch.
All you have to do is restore the partition from the backup file and
then update any software that was modified since the backup was created.

Note: Beware of software which installs or modifies files on multiple
partitions (e.g. Windows programs which update the registry or
DLLs that may be on other partitions). If one partition is saved
or restored, you must include others (otherwise, inconsistencies
could prevent software from running).

Partition Saving is able to compress data (using the gzip compression
algorithm) and split it up into several files (e.g. if you need to save
a 2 Gb partition onto a CD, this can be done by compressing it and, if
necessary, splitting it up into 650 Mb files). Most partition types are
supported. In the case of FAT (12, 16 and 32), ext2 and NTFS partitions,
you can choose between saving all sectors or in-use sectors only.

I can vouch for DrvImager! You will need another boot source to boot
from in order to restore an image though. The Windows Ultimate Boot CD
is what I used. It boots up into a slim XP environment.

There are several steps to create this CD, but it is a very valuable
tool when you get it done!

You could boot from another partition that has an XP install too in
order to restore another XP partition.

Another method mentioned in the DrvImagerXP help files:

"Automated System Recovery
Before you start saving and restoring hard drives that contain the
currently running operating system (the system partition), I strongly
recommend you save the information first by using XP's Automated
System Recovery program, xcopy, or Windows Explorer. This will be
your safety net, should you make a mistake (I've made my share). Once
you've made a couple successful restores, then you can rely on
DrvImagerXP without the need for an additional backup. I will show
you how to use XP's Automated System Recovery program. It is a very
easy process, and should you have to restore your partition, one
button click will do the trick with no other intervention on your
part.

Put a blank floppy disk in the floppy drive.

Run the Backup program from Start > All Programs > Accessories >
System Tools

Click the Advanced Mode setting.

Click on the Automated System Recovery Wizard button.

Click Next.

Select a place for the backup file (hard drive, tape backup,
whatever).

Click Next, then Finish.

The program will take awhile to backup all the necessary files, then
write information to the floppy, and you're done.

To restore the backup file you just created:

Place the floppy in the drive.

Boot your computer using your XP CD.

When the CD first starts, it will ask you (briefly) to press the F2
key for Automated System Recovery. Press the F2 key and walk away.

When the restore is done, your computer will be displaying the desktop
of the default operating system."

You can span CD's with this method, or store the backup image to
another drive. Your XP CD is used to boot and start ASR in the
recovery mode. I've made backups with this method, but I have not used
this method to restore yet. I have with DrvImagerXP.

DiskTools ImageMaker is an easy to use disk imaging tool, that enables
you to create exact images of your entire hard drive(s), or separate
partitions on a hard drive. The images then can then be restored to the
initial or any other hard drive or volume, regardless of a file system
it is formatted in. The program works directly from within Windows,
there is no need to boot from a floppy in order to create the disk
image. Does not support Dynamic Disks under Windows 2K/XP.
