Hi,

Whenever I scan my pc or when I check files, my pc stops working if it encounters 'nbtstat.exe'. The only option then is to reboot.
Can anyone tell me what nbtstat.exe is about and if it is OK to delete it? If it can be removed from my pc, how can I remove it (because the pc stops when the file appears...)?

Thanks in advance,

Jogchum

nbtstat.exe = TCP/IP NetBios Information

It's an XP file and I doubt that you can delete it.

While Wesley is correct that nbtstat.exe is the NetBIOS statistics he should have pointed out that it is safe to turn off this feature in the control panel\network connections. It is in fact probably safer to do so. go>start\control panel\network connections\right click on your internet connection and then click properties. In the window on your general tab click on Internet Protocol (TCP\IP) then click the properties button just under the center window. Now click the "advanced" button down the bottom and then the "wins" tab and then down the bottom put a dot in "Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP". Now I should mention that it is best to contact your internet provider and see if in fact their system requires the NetBIOS over TCP/IP. It shouldn't unless they have older outdated equipment. }:~)
