Can not get it to show up on a custom Link Bar, even though it is shown as
there in preveiw mode in FP 2002. Any Sugestions?

I presume, then, that it fails to show up after
publishing. So this is really a publishing problem, and
not a custom Link Bar problem?

And I bet you're publishing by FTP? If so, be sure to
publish every page that uses the Custom Link Bar. It'll
probably be easier to publish the whole site.

I am publishing with FP 2002. FP general does what it needs to do in order
to update the files on the server. The nav bar does get published, it is
just missing the button for the link to the sub-web when published. Although
it is there in FP preview screen. I have had this issue ever since I first
tried it, but have not found a solution. A work around is to just place a
seperate hyperlink that points to the sub-web.

The link must be an external link

FP navigation only works within the web it was created in, so it can not be
a relative hyperlink, it must be a absolute URL as in,
http://www.yourdomainname.com/subwebname
