Names in Contacts in last name order; names in outlook address bo.

I want to have the names in the name field (preferabley not display name) of
the Outlook address book displayed (and sorted) in last name order, as I have
in my Contacts folder. How can I achieve this? Where does the first
name/last name order in the name field of the address book come from? I'm
using Outlook 2003. Thank you.
 
What do you show under Tools->options->mail settings->view or change
directories->change for how to sort the address book?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I don't have "mail settings", but "mail setup", then "View or change directories". I had gone through this and set up "Outlook address book" based on Contacts. On your advice - I clicked change...and lo and behold - I had the option to sort by last name first! Many thanks again

I am using Outlook & Word 2003:
When using "insert address" in Word 2003 my contacts come up sorted by their
first name. How do I make them sort by last name. In the "file as" field in
the contacts the contact appears last name first but this does not help the
problem. I imported my contacts from a pst file in Word XP. I did not have
this problem in the XP version.

you are explaining under "Tools, Options" in Outlook 2003.
 
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
