Mysterious message being sent?

Hi

I have just noticed that every now and then my outlook 2003 suddenly
tries to send some messages. On the status bar at the bottom of the
Outlook window it says "Sending message 1 of 9...".

I can't seem to see the messages it is trying to send, my outbox is
empty and I haven't written anything to be sent from the e-mail account
it is trying to send from.

Luckily, I think i haven't configured the outbound settings of the
account the mails are trying to use so the send fails.

My question is: Where are these messages being stored? What is sending
them if they're not in my outbox? How can I get rid of them?

If it is a virus/trojan I am surprised my Avast antivirus has not
detected it and my firewall (zonealarm) is obviously not stopping
anything?!?

Any ideas?

Thanks
M

It is indeed mysterious!
Normally, you would see these emails in either Sent Items or the Outtbox,
but from my understanding, you don't see any strange emails in neither of
these places.

I would have gone for your idea regarding virus/trojan, however try with
another antivirus application (AVG?) and try any spyware removal tool to
clean out any "bad" stuff you might have located on your pc.
