I don't think you should. All saved work defaults to it unless otherwise
specified; look at the dialog box next time you save something. Call it a
"safety valve". Removal may create worse problems than with its existence.

You can't. It will be repaired.

I can't believe that you can't remove the boot from a car. How dare they tell us where to put luggage.

You mean that I am not allowed to decide for myself how to organize my
files???

You can organise them how you like. You can then use TweakUI (Use
TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys - to reassign the location that the
'logical concept' of 'My Documents' point to (Its My Computer - Special
Folders). I have it point to the root of my D: drive; then any save
will be offering that as default, and I can choose a specific folder
inside it.

You should not though point the other 'special folders' - My Pics; My
Music etc to the same place; give each their own folder (perhaps inside
that My Documents) to use

But you cannot get rid of that logical link that is picked up by things
like Saave As in many programs

David,

Thx for the explanation.

I r-click My documents, properties and used the Move button. It now
points elsewhere. I also added a new folder to My Documents, but I could
not change where it points. I guess I would need TweakUI for that - will
do that later.
