my xp startup files have been corrupted and xp will not start

First boot from the Windows XP CD and perform a Repair Installation. This
will ensure that the essential XP files have been correctly copied and that
the computer is itself bootable. Using the utilities on the bootable XP CD
will get you through this. You don't provide a great deal of information to
make a suggestion, and if you get stuck, please do another posting
describing what steps you have taken to date.
