Hi,

I have a small workgroup network with 5 machines running windows 2K and one
running XP pro. All the machines have blank Administrator passwords (I know
that's probly not a good thing but that's a different story) We had a
service that wouldn't start up on the XP box because the admin password was
blank so I changed it, that didn't fix the problem - it created one! I
changed the admin password back to blank, and now all the other machines not
only prompt for user name and password, they get rejected from access the XP
box on the network. Hopefully someone here can help me fix this.....

Thanks

Hi,
Did the Win2K machines have access to XP machine before

Windows XP professional will not allow network users computer access without
a password. Trying to do so will normally return and error code. To allow
network access using a blank password:
[Start] [Run] and type gpedit.msc and click [OK]
Navigate to Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Security Settings /
Local Policies / Security Options
Double click on Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to
console login only.
Select the radio button next to Disabled and click [OK]
