My XP has slowed down tremendously

I have had windows XP home for about 21/2 years.
Lately I have noticed my machine has slowed down
tremendously.

It take ages for any new program to startup and it seems
very slow.

I cleaned out all spyware and worms etc using HiJackThis
and SpybotSD. I don't know of any spyware that is lurking
on my system. I don't see any suspicious processes
lurking in the system either.

I have done all the recommended maintenance recommended
such as defrag etc.

Any thoughts?

Run your anti-virus?(didn't see it listed).If you have

one ,make sure it's up to date and run it.If you don't
have one get one for a year FREE from microsofts update
page.Get it,update it,run it.You may have a virus,or
trojan that the others are not picking up on. You can
copy and paste the address from this link to get you to
