I reciently had no choice but to reformat, and I had to re install windows. I
have tried over and over, using the product key on the sticker on my PC, but
it doesnt work. I tried to get support from microsoft, and they want $35 for
just the help. There are only 18 more days on my windows activation! Any tips
on what I should do? Dell said that my warranty has expired, so they want 39$
a phone call.

Hi ... Are you using the Dell disk to install Windows back ? Because those keys on the Dell PC only works with the Dell disk ( OEM )operating system ...

The version used has to match the key. Did you use the Windows installation
CD supplied by Dell? Did the Windows installation accept the key or did you
use a different key and now you can't activate? Have you tried to activate
by phone? With Dell and some other OEM keys you will probably have to phone
to activate. Don't phone the support number. Chose activate by phone then
phone the supplied activation phone number.

First, you need to provide us with an accurate description of your
problem. If the Product Key "didn't work" you would not have been able
to install Windows, and you now would not be at "... 18 more days ..."
in the Activation countdown. Are you unable to install the OS, or are
you having problems activating it? If the latter, have you followed the
on-screen prompts to activate via telephone? Some time ago, Microsoft
disabled the CDs/Product Keys from most major OEMs such as Dell from
activating via the Internet. (This was in response to the large number
of the branded OEM CDs being illegally (without the computer) resold vis
eBay, computer fairs, etc.) A free, 5 minute phone call should clear
this up.

Product activation issues are a free call, and unless you used a restore
CD, you had to use the key to install Windows, so, have you called
called by phone to activate?

Install Linux and forget about the silly hassles of activation.

You'll end up with a much more powerful, secure and stable operating system
and loads of free software that does everything Windoze does, only better.
