lHi to all.
This is a problem that only started yesterday. I haven't loaded any new
programs or anything else. I wil be online and the next thing you know the
taskbar is gone. It also doesn't always reappear after rebooting. Right now
I have it locked and that hasn't made any difference. Any help?

Anything in the Event Log?

If you press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, use the "Applications" tab, press the "New
Task" button and type in "explorer.exe" and click OK when it has
disappeared - what happens?

When was the last full scan for spyware/adware?
Last full scan for viruses/trojans/worms?
Last CHKDSK?
Last Windows Update session?
Last time you checked for the latest hardware drivers from the hardware
manufacturers (not Microsoft)?

On Friday I did all updates and scans.

My documents file opens up. Why? and wat I am I suppsed to look at?

So - Friday you did "all updates and scans".
That means - in accordance with what I asked - Friday you spent the day:

- Allowing your freshly updated antiovirus software to do a full system
scan.
- Allowing several (2+) freshly updated antispyware applications to do full
system scans.
- Checked all disks for errors - including your system disk - which would
require a reboot to do.
- Went to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scanned
for/downloaded/installed at least all critical updates (not getting any
hardware drivers..)
- Visited each web page related to each piece of hardware you have and
downloaded/installed the latest hardware drivers from their web pages?
(Motherboard chipset, video card, network card, sound card, etc..)

To add to that - you may want to run a full hard drive defragmentation as
well.

The CTRL+SHIFT+ESC thing should be done "when the problem happens" - not
randomly. Also - when the problem occurs - under the processes tab of the
same windo - is explorer listed and what is its CPU and memory usage
numbers?

What about the event log? You are looking for errors in one of them around
the time your taskbar disappears.

I wonder whether it's really gone, or just reduced to zero height. Do
you see a line at the bottom of you screen? If so, drag it upward to
restore your taskbar.

I see that Shenan suggested manually (re)starting the explorer
program, which controls the taskbar as well as folder windows. You
say that when you did that it opened My Documents. That's normal
behavior *if* there's already a copy of explorer running, which again
suggests to me that your taskbar isn't gone but just reduced to zero
width.

Try this: Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!

No it wasn't reduced, I know how to fix that. It was literally gone. I
thank you all for your help.

I do a defrag every other day and make sure that all other systems are
checked at the very least weekly.
