All my photos saved in My Pictures files are also shown
on my Desktop background (wallpapers). Now I have such a
long list when I go tp Display/Properties/Desktop
Tab/Backgrounds. Why? I don't want them there. How can I
delete them whitout deleting My Pictures File?
Tahnk you for your help.

Perhaps you could move all your pictures to another folder (not in my pictures
folder).

Hi Victor,
I believe what you see at Display/Properties/Desktop/ Tab/Backgrounds, are
really shortcuts to the picture files, and that the files are not stored
there.

On my pc, when I change the desktop background, the old one stays on the
list with the supplied windows ones, at the bottom of the list.

There are tabs for theme and background. I find that if I go to the tab for
theme, and select from the drop down list the current theme (modified), and
press delete, that particular shortcut disappears, if I then go to the drop
down box on the theme tab, and select say, window xp, and change it again,
on the background tab, to be able to select another picture.

So on till the unwanted ones go away by this method, though I must admit it
is more by trial and error, and confusion that I achieve this.

Rob.

Hi Victor,

The pictures that show up under display properties, desktop are located in
these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents\My Pictures
C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

Under My Computer scroll down to Shared Documents/Shared Pictures. If
Shared Pictures is listed, remove it.

TweakUI for XP: Unchecking "Lock Web Content" under Explorer to be added
to desktop disables the pictures from being listed.

Workarounds:

Create another folder (under your user profile), remove the pictures from My
Pictures that you don't want listed under Backgrounds and in the My Pictures
folder, create a shortcut to the new folder. Or create subfolders within My
Pictures.

Add Folders to the "Save As" Dialog (Places Bar) Line 117

Disable Default Save As to My Pictures (Line 263)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Add Folder to Start Menu to replace/re-route My Pictures (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

This is one of my biggest gripes with Windows. I DO NOT want the pictures I
store in "my pictures" to be visible as wallpaper options, but I haven't
found a way to prevent it. What is the reason for this and who thought this
would be a good idea??

Paul,

Follow Kelly's advice and move the Image files to some other folder [ as for My Pictures ]. Another option is to place hundreds of images to My Pictures folder. [58 was enough when I tested]. Windows XP ignored fetching images from this folder when the file count crossed 58.
