been very good until about a week ago. Now everytime i turn on my pc it will
run for about 2 minutes...then it will shut off and restart opening up in
disk check. The blue screen says something like there is a problem with a
disk that needs to be checked...u can stop if u want to though.....problem
with file system c FAT32, one disk is being checked for consistency and so
on. After it restarts though my pc runs as normal as ever. I have tryed the
system restore and it hasnt helped. Please help me, i dont have the money to
go get a new pc.

Hi

If you don't see any error messages, right click on My Computer, select
Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on Settings under Startup and
Recovery and disable 'Automatically restart'. Next time your PC reboots,
you should see a Blue Screen. Could you please post the Stop Code from the
BSOD?

Also, please have a look in the Event Viewer to see if any entries there may
refer to the problem.

Will-

I've been watching this tread for a few days because I had the exact same
problem. I wonder what your hunch is. Are you leaning towards a virus issue
or a hardware problem?

Before this thread appeared I decided to do a clean install of XP. The
install failed and the screen went black and continually tried to reboot.
What now?

Hi ~m~,
Your computer seems to be infected with a worm, which has a timeout or
reboot script embedded in it.Since in your message you state that your
compter turns on, stay's on then for no apparent reason reboots. I would
suggest you download and run McAfee stinger, its free and has the ablilty to
detect and destroy 40 most common worms and trojans.Make sure your antivirus
is working properly as some virus's or worms disable Antivirus
applications. You can also view the latest virus's and worms at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ where you can download a free "FIX
TOOL" .
Depending on the virus or worm, these parasites have the ability to cause
your computer to mal funtion in weird ways. Please keep me posted on your
sucess, as a good samaritan i like helping people who are cash straped.

Best of Luck

It was a bad CD-RW. I was booting from the CD-RW and never completed an XP
clean install. One by one I started removing PCI cards. First tried a
replacement video card, then removed the modem, then the sound card, then the
floppy, then the DVD, then I reinstalled the DVD, removed the CD-RW, and
tried a final time. Success was mine!
