and it's annoying. i highlight the entire table(in datasheet view) select
'copy' but when i re open the other database the 'paste' option is
UNAVAILABLE!
HELLLLLLLLLLLLP WHAT IS WRONG???

Because that second database is not aware that you copied information to the
clipboard.

Use Ctrl-v to paste the information into the second database.

Hi.
HELLLLLLLLLLLLP WHAT IS WRONG???

It's better to import objects than to copy/paste them into another database.
Open the other database, select the File menu -> Get external data ->
Import... to open the Import dialog window. Select the database with the
table you want to copy, then select the "Import" button to open the Import
Objects dialog window. Select your table's name, then select the "OK"
button to import the table into the other database.

If you can't do this, it may be because your current user account doesn't
have the necessary permissions. If this is the case, then you'll receive
the appropriate error message to see your database administrator about the
problem.

Hi, Doug.

If she links to the table in the original database from the other database,
then makes changes in the other database, these changes will occur in the
original database. That may not be what she expects. She intended to copy
the data from the table in the original database to the table in the other
database, so supposedly she wants to keep the original data separate from
the copy.

PRECISELY.........NOTHING WORKED...I'VE TRIED ALL YOUR
SUGGESTIONS..........IT MUST be my copy of access or something.......damn

I'd suggest linking to the other database, and running an Append
query, rather than trying to copy and paste. Access isn't really
designed for copy and paste operations, as a spreadsheet might be!

The Ctrl-v option didn't work?

Is the database into which you're trying to paste the info a "read only"
database? Can you edit any data in this database?

STMN:

You shouldn't be able to simply use File > Get External Data > Import (to get a new, independent
copy) or Link (to create a linked table). As Gunny mentioned earlier, your table is considered
external, since "it's another access 2000 database."
i highlight the entire table(in datasheet view) select
'copy' but when i re open the other database
There's your problem! You need to have both the source and target databases open at the same
time, in order to use your copy / paste technique. The Windows clipboard is apparently getting
cleared in the process of opening the target database.

Correction:

The first sentence should read: You should be able to.....

THANKS PPL....I GOT IT FIGURED OUT. I WAS DOING SOMETHING WRONG I WASN'T
SELECTING THE RIGHT PLACE ETC...so i that explains why i was getting the
'text too large to copy' error.
thanks for alllllllllllll your help

Well, that's interesting....in your first post, you mentioned nothing about any error message
(ie.: 'text too large to copy' error). Instead, you simply said:

"and it's annoying. i highlight the entire table(in datasheet view) select
'copy' but when i re open the other database the 'paste' option is
UNAVAILABLE!"

Let me give you a clue on something else that you are doing wrong...

IT IS GENERALLY CONSIDERED RUDE AND IMPOLITE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS. IT IS EQUILVALENT TO YELLING AT
EVERYONE. YOU DID THIS TO SOME EXTENT IN THREE OF THE FOUR MESSAGES YOU POSTED IN THIS THREAD.

I have a related question - I have 2 tables in the same database and I need
to copy 2 columns from Table A to Table B. It's not working to select the
columns in Table A and try to paste them in Table B. At this point the only
way I can get the data over to Table B is to manually input all the records.
There has to be a better way. Running Access 2000

Thanks for any help.

Use an append query to do this.

INSERT INTO Table2 (FieldA, FieldB)
SELECT FieldA, FieldB
FROM Table1

Using the query design view
-- add table1 to the grid
-- select the fields you want to put into table2
-- Select Query: Append from the Menu
-- Select Table2 when asked
-- Select the appropriate fields from table 2 under each of the fields
-- Select Query: Run from the menu
