My Network Places Hangs

Has anybody else seen this problem, I am running XP Professional. I start my network places and then select entire network, the program hangs at this point and will remain in that state for hours. If you try to close the window you get unresponsive window and you have to kill explorer to remove it. However if while the original window is open you start a second or or even more my network places they behave normally. If at any point you kill the first window all the other my network places die at the same time and you are back to the start.

I am running a fully patched version of the operating system, with the latest version of Sophos. The problem first appeared about three months ago. Obviously I can get by by keeping a hung copy of my network places permanently open, but this is getting annoying.

I am having the same problem. Did you get any good advice?

Thanks

Mike

Something similar started happening to my network about 2 weeks ago. I have
a three computer home network. On desktop #1, My Network Places hangs up
when invoked and that computer cannot be seen by My Network Places on the
other two computers and they cannot access share folders or printers on
desktop #1. The other two computers can acess share folders on each other.
The other two computers have upgraded to SP2, but desktop #1 has not.
