Ok, i'm a first time poster ... i'll do my best to follow protocol!
I recently purchased a new computer with SP2 preinstalled. I downloaded all
the newest patches, installed my office 2003 products, and my norton products
(internet security, system works, password manager, etc.) in no particular
order. Following one of the various reboots i began to notice that i was
having a problem configuring a file share. Afterwards i double clicked on My
Network places and it bombed with an explorer.exe application error. Viewing
the Dr. Watson data told me there was a problem with msvcrt.dll. Once i
replaced it with the OEM files it now says the problem is with shell32.
Because this file is in use i cannot replace it. Although, i'm not exactly
sure that is the problem, considering the file versions are the same between
the system32 folder and the OEM media. Does anyone have any ideas what could
cause this? Btw, the same problem happens when i click on network places
from within Explorer. However, if i manually type a computer name into the
address bar, i.e. \\computername\share then explorer works fine.
