My network place

I used my laptop (Wins XP Pro) at work and see all PCs in the workgroup. When
I get home and open My Network Place, I still see those PCs at work. Isn't it
suppose they will not show up when my laptop is connected to my own LAN at
home ?

Can some experts explain why this so ?

Your machine is just remembering them because it maintains a browse list if
you aren't running on a domain with a WINS server. You can't access the
workstations when you're at home (try!). Is this worrying you for some
reason?

That's how it's supposed to work. Windows XP doesn't automatically
remove anything from My Network Places.

Why is that so? Possibly because computers can be turned on or off at
any time, and it would be too hard to keep track of all the comings
and goings on a network.

Tip -It's not often realised that you can create shortcuts to the objects in
Network Places. Right-click on the 'Entire Network' icon to make a shortcut
that behaves more like the traditional 'Network Neighbourhood' item. Or make
one for a specific domain.
