I have a Microsoft optical wheel mouse with a light (why
it has one I don't know!)... the problem is, the light
stays on all the time even when the machine is off. It is
a genuine Microsoft mouse and is a standard plug in one
(not USB). Does anyone have ay suggestions. Please email
me directly and thanx in advance.

This is standard with a PS/2 Port. I noticed this myself with my logitech
mouse, which is USB or PS/2 and when I had it plugged into the PS/2 port, it
stayed on all the time, unless I turned off the power stip that my computer
was hooked to. If you have the capability, plug the mouse into USB.

Your mouse port is still getting power, you'll have to disable your power on
by AnyKey/Mouse/Whatever feature you have on your motherboard or bios.

This should be a feature of your computer. If you're putting the
machine in Standby, rather than shutting down, then I would expect this
to happen. If you're shutting the machine down completely, then you may
need to check your computer's BIOS settings. Last but not least, right
click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager. Locate the
entry for Universal Serial Bus controllers. Expand the branch and
double click on the USB Root Hub entries. Power Management tab, allow
the system to turn these off. This should power down your mouse as
well.
