My microphone

Yes. No matter what I do,I can`t seem to get my microphone
to work. It`s brand new. When I open up the volume
controls it has it checked as muted. It won`t let me
uncheck that. It will let me move the check to another box
though.. ie Line in,CD player.. etc. But still no luck. I
have run the diag on the sound recording. And it dosn`t
seem to see a mic.
I have used a mic on this system before.. a couple years
ago. So I know it should work. I tested the mic on my
laptop and there`s no problem.

I am using windows XP home edition.

Any help would be apreciated.

Are you looking at the controls for playback or recording? The default view
is playback, and the mic should be muted there.
