My inbox doesn't show that I have replied to an e-mail?

I'm using hotmail through Office Outlook 2003.
Usually when you reply to or forward an e-mail, the letter symbol changes to
an envelope with an arrow on it, and once you open the e-mail it says 'you
replied on... at...' etc. But mine isn't and I can't figure out how to make
it! It's very frustrating when you reply 3 times to the same email.
Can you help? Thanks!
 
Many OL features like this do not work with HTTP web mail like Hotmail. OL is
better used with POP mail.
