my homebuilt CD-Rom locks up

Hi,

I've had my PC for about a year now with no problems but now my CD-ROM
constantly freezes whenever it trys to read any media.

I've turned off the autoplay feature but it still locks up. I do have my
CD-Rom and DVD-Rom on the same IDE cable. But this shouldn't make a
difference right? My DVD-Rom also freezes when reading any media.

I tried using a promise controller card and putting the media drives on
different channels but my controller would only work with my hard drives and
not the media.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try a different ide cable, just a thought. Have you updated your firmware
and run a virus check?
