Hi folks,

I am having trouble when inserting columns in a large data field.
Whenever I insert a column at some point in the data field, th
formulas within the data field adjust, or 'stretch', to accomodate th
added column, however my conditional formatting gets pushed along t
the right and doesn't adapt itself in the same way the formulas do.
This means whenever I insert a column, the formulas remain correct bu
I have to reset the conditional formatting for the entire data field.

I would be extremely grateful for any advice on this situation.

Best regards,

melvi

Melvin,

I am surprised. What is the CF formula?

Hi Bob,

To be more specific, I am constructing a holiday spreadsheet for
number of employees. I have the names of the employees across the to
of the page and days of the year down the left hand side of the page.
I have conditionally formatted the employees entitlement to turn re
when it gets to zero days left (or below), so the CF is:

If cell value is "less than or equal to" --> "zero" then format cel
pattern red.

When a new employee needs to be added, other formulas in the shee
stretch to include the extra employee, however the cond. formatte
cells shift to the right, leaving the entitlement for the employees o
the far left of the field with no conditional formatting whatsoever.

I hope this makes the problem a little clearer!

Thanks for any assistance folks.

Melvi

Melvin,

A very typical example that does work.

Is the CF is a condition, or an expression (formula)? Have you got absolute
references in the CF formula?

Hi melvin,

Is it an option to paste instead of insert your cells? in that case yo
could do 'paste special' and then 'paste formula'. In this way i
doesn't change the format of the cells you're copying to...
