My files list in reverse alphabetical order; how do I swap back?

When I want to open a file, the file listing that pops up is in reverse
alphabetic order (single files first, then folders but back to front). This
is a recent change (don't know why). HOw do I put it back
 
Right click in the file list portion of the open dialog box and select
Arange icons by: name or
Sort by: name
depending on your version of excel. If you were to do it a second time, you
would see that it reverses the order. Maybe how it happened the first
time... if files are already in a specific order, selecting the same sort
again will show it in descending rather than ascending format.
For example:
sort by size would list smallest to largest
sort by size again to get largest to smallest
sort by size yet again to go back to smallest to largest...
 
Depending on your version of Word as well... sorry about that, I must have
forgotten where I was. ;-)
