I have downlaoaded HP updates and drives, and other program updates, and
these downloads originally go to "My downloads" folder.
After I install them, unzipping, etc, they might go to another folder, like
Program Files, etc.
However, the original download (sometimes still unzipped, I assume) migth
stay in the My Download folder. I still have some of these there.
Are these supposed to stay there in My Download folder, or I am supposed to
erase or delete these, or I am supposed to do something else with them?
What happens if I delete these from My Downloads folder?
Please advise.

You need to burn those downloaded files onto a CDR and mail them back
to Microsoft, so they can put them back onto their Updates page for
others to download. They don't have an infinite supply of those
files, after all, and depend on us to help them out by recycling the
updates.

In all seriousness, once the update is installed you should be able to
delete the downloaded file that contained the update. I have never
done it though, since I don't download the updates. WinXP contacts MS
automatically, retrieves the updates and informs me it is ready to
install them. I click OK and it's done - with no residue left on my
HDD excpet the patched code.

Once you have gotten the programs and/or information from
the unzipped file that you downloaded, you may delete the
zip file, or keep it as a backup. But, you don't have to
keep it.
