Hi, can any one tell me how I can get more storage space for 'my documents'.
Or change the amount I have. At the moment I have 15mb, 11.5 used. I have
heaps of room left on my hard drive but can not figure out where to go to
increase the amount allocated to 'my documents'
Thanks
Sue

There is no such thing as what you describe if your My Documents
folder is on your hard drive. If you've somehow moved it to another
drive, that's the problem.

Do you mean Gb? Right click on the start button then Explore. In which
drive is "my documents" showing?

I'm making a wild assumption from your description that you are perhaps
using a laptop which has the hard drive partitioned into 2, C: and D: ?
And that your programs etc are on C: and "my Documents" on D:

OK now I am confused.
If I right click my documents and go to properties, in general it says, size
15mb size on disc 11.5 mb. It shows the my documents folder location as drive
C which is my hard drive. If I go to drive C and look at properties it says
I have 14 gig left unused.
from this i assumed that 15 mb was allocated to the my documents folder, and
therefore I could probabley allocate more space to it.
I only wanted to do this as when I tried to save somthing to my documents
yesterday I got a message saying insufficient memory. I deleted some stuff
from my documents and was then able to save it. But from what you are saying
I should have unlimited storage in my documents ? depending on the amount of
free space on my hard drive ?
Sorry if this is a daft question but I am not that up on the workings of my
pc.
Cheers Sue

No, disk space is not allocated to any particular folder. Unused disk space
is available to any folder or folders that need it. There's nothing you can
do, or should do, in this regard.

You are mixing up memory (RAM) and disk space. they are two very different
things.

I
deleted some stuff from my documents and was then able to save it.

Deleting "some stuff" from My Documents (or anywhere else) can't help with
not having enough memory. Again, they are two different things. Whatever the
reason for your ability to save it afterward, it had nothing to do with what
you deleted.

But from what you are saying I should have unlimited storage in my

Not unlimited, but...

depending on the amount of free space on my hard drive ?

....limited to the total free space on the drive.

Think of it as a drawer in a physical filing cabinet. The cabinet has 20
file folders in it, and they take up only half the available space in the
drawer. The rest of the drawer is unallocated space, and it isn't allocated
to any particular file folder. You can add documents into any file folder
and the folder will expand to use up some of that available space.

Go worry about something else fer crissakes.

The 15mb/11.5mb numbers are estimates of the amount of space you are
using. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you wanna use 13 more gigs for MD storage, go for it.
