Thanks, but that did not work. Any other ideas?

It does not seem to be desktop.ini files that control this behaviour, so I
think it must be in the registry.

If it is in the registry, does anybody know the location of the keys that
control the window type?

I have the WINDOWS folder, C:, Program Files, as well as My Documents,
showing Music Tasks. I want them to be System Tasks (and File and Folder
Tasks on My Documents).

My Documents folder thinks it is a Music folder - from MVP Ramesh

Try resetting the folder settings:

Click Start, Run and type C:\
Click Tools, Folder Options
In the View tab, click "Reset all folders"
Click OK.
Close the folder

Ah thanks, that worked. Of course I've known about that for years, but I
was hoping to be able to fix it manually, as now I have lost all my other
window settings. But come to think of it, this is fine.

Hi Synapse Syndrome,

Glad you got this issue resolved using Malke's suggestion.

In case this problem occurs again, you may also use Keith Miller's script to fix the problem. Download "TaskPaneFix.zip" from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize/msg/d7dd4582cc4b2e99
Note: Close all folder windows before running this script.

Note that the script resets the folder type setting for that particular folder only.

Thanks Ramesh. I will keep this for next time it messes up.

Have you got any idea how to get My Documents showing in My Computer when
the location has been moved to another drive? Please see "File Stores in
This Computer - not appearing in User accounts", if you can.

Cheers

I have never moved the MY folders so I am just guessing, but would setting
an environmental variable do what you want here?

A variable for what? My main account had a partition mounted to the default
location, so the difference ought to be transparent, as the original paths
still are the same.
