I have a user whose My Documents icon will not open. You do not get an
error it just does not open. If you try to access it from Explorer it
gives an error that it cannot find the target. If you go to the
properties of "My Documents" the target path is empty and you cannot
type in this box. There are no other properties that display. There
are no policies configured and the user is a local admin. There is the
folder in the proper location and it does have a document in it and the
permissions are correct. I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
in advance for any help.

Was the computer attached to a network domain? Was the folder pointing to
some other location on the disk using an NTFS junciton point? Has the drive
letter of the disk containing the My Documents folder recently changed?

In My Documents Properties...

What happens if you click Find Target?

What happens if you click Restore Default?

Yes this computer is on a network domain but the "My Documents" was
never altered. It actually points correctly in the registry. The
folder is also there in the users profile. My gut feeling is if I
delete the users profile this will resolve the problem but I was trying
to avoid that.

That is the odd thing. There are no options to click restore or find
target. Actually nothing shows but the target path box which you
cannot type in. Another odd thing is if you double click "My Documents
from the desktop or Start menu nothing happens. But if you click "My
Documents" in Explorer it gives the error about not being able to find
it. I checked the properties in each of these areas and none show the
selection boxes of restore, move, or find target. They also do not have
the General, Sharing, or security tab. It has stumped me. Any ideas?

It could be a redirected folder that actually resides on the server.

Test this by logging on locally as Administrator and searching for a file
known to exist in the users My Documents folder. If it is not found, the
users My Documents folder is most likely a redirected folder residing on the
company server.
