Alright, so my dads "friend" came to "fix" our computer the other day. He
really didnt do anything that I probably couldn't have done, except DELETE
THE D: DRIVE. I noticed something was missing one day when I opened up My
Computer, but I didn't know what, until tonight when I tried to play a CD. I
opened up RealPlayer, and it said "No CD Drive Detected." And thats when I
knew what was missing. I've been looking around, but I have no idea how to
install it again! Help?

You dont install it, as long as it is detected in the bios then it should
appear in windows.

is it detected at startup ?
otherwise you must try to add in the bios. (normally it shoul dbe detected
automaticaly)
check connection cables.
And perhaps it 's really defected.

First stop for me would be Device Manager (since your already in Windows).
Any red X or yellow exclamation point? If the drive just plain doesn't show
up I would look in the BIOS. The cd-rom may be disabled in the IDE
settings. If the BIOS looks fine and it still doesnt show up then I'd check
power, cables, jumper settings. If everything seems fine and it still
doesnt get detected by BIOS then you have a bad drive.

Check that the cable is connected to the CD inside the case if you
can.

The problem could also be due to corrupt Upper and Lower CD-Rom filters.
But starting with the basics helps us troubleshoot the issue. No reason to
start poking around and potentially causing more issues when you can start
from square 1 and work from there.
