Start by ensuring your machine is realy of irus's and malware
Run these from safe mode, after cleaning out all tmp files

sysclean http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
latest patern files http://www.trendmicro.com/download/viruspattern.asp

smitfraud .ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/SmitFraud.exe

Thanks Roberto, followed your instructions but alas the problem remains.
Any thing else I can try? I am sorry to admit that I am not very
knowledgeable on the technical side of windows but I am willing to try
following step by step instructions.

Ran the full system scan from the Trend Micro Housecall which didn't
identify any virus or worm.

I would suggest that if you are not very techie, any instruction by
newsgroup is going to leave you to more problems.

Why don't you go to a local computer shop or where you bought your machine?
