hi, i need assistance regarding this problem.. after it loads, the monitor
suddenly goes black then restarts...

ok the history:
Last month i was infected with SASSER(i think)
Last week i was infected with BACKDOOR.PRORAT and i noticed this two when i
went here and i decided to get a good virus scanner to remove them.. the
NORTON did successfully removed this two when i followed their advice to
remove them and after that i was very protective of my computer and i went
and get AVG(anti-virus guard) - its a free virus scanner. I scanned my
computer using it and it found many other virus norton didnt noticed and this
include the infected system files. It was too late for me to find out that
those were actually false-positive alert and i already deleted then.. So i
noticed that my computer is slowly deteriorating in performance,
could those files i deleted be the cause? coz last week, everytime i try to
play "NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND" there is a chance that the computer
suddenly restart, then a few days ago i installed "THEME HOSPITAL" and the
compuer always restart everytime i click the game icon and yesterday i
borrowed a game called "SID MEIER'S: PIRATES" if i click the game icon the
computer restarts
but if i turn-off all the processes except the critical ones these games
work fine.

I was playing "THEME HOSPITAL" earlier when a brown-out occured and when the
power went back, i can go to wondows and the desktop icons appear, but in a
few seconds the computer suddenly restarts on its own then the same process
repeats itself...

can anybody help, thank you so much in advance :)

also i forgot to add, everytime it restarts, my computer puts into the
registry the value: "%systemroot%/system32/dumprep 0 -k" or something like
that and once also my computer displays a message the windows is running on
"UNRECOGNIZED VERSION" and with it there were three buttons - i think it was
"TRY AGAIN, *FORGOT HERE BUT I THINK IT WAS A CD THING*, CANCEL" <-- how do i
show it again? i unknowingly cancelled it and it was too late for me to
realize what i have done... thanks again

Check out this page. Might be something here that will help you diagnose
the problem.
http://aumha.org/secure.htm Click on the Online Parasite Scanner.

When Norton Cleaned your computer did you turn off system restore? Reread
the cleaning instructions for the particular virus you had. You may need to
clean it again but first turn off system restore [if the instructions say to
do that]. Every virus cleaning help I have read says to turn off System
Restore first. Just something for you to consider. I am not a Microsoft
tech.

Can you start in Safe Mode?

To start Windows XP in Safe Mode turn on the computer and start
tapping the F8 key rapidly just as soon as the first information of
any kind shows on the screen. Keep tapping until the Windows XP
Startup Menu appears and choose Safe Mode from the menu.

While the computer is running in Safe Mode open Control Panel - System
- Advanced and click on the Settings button in the Startup and
Recovery (bottom) section. In the Startup and Recovery window click
on the checkbox for "automatically restart" to clear it then click on
Apply and OK as needed to exit.

Shut down and restart the computer normally.

That could result in a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP error screen. If
it does make note of the complete contents of the STOP message
including all of the parameter codes and post that information back
here. That will be a direct clue as to the underlying cause of your
problem.

If the computer will not boot in Safe Mode then try using the "last
known good configuration" item from the Startup Menu and then turn off
the "automatically restart" as described above.

Post the results back here, including the complete information from
any B.S.O.D. STOP messages.

If the computer will not boot at all then there are still other
options we can try.

Good luck

Thanks Ron - ive followed your advise and the BSOD appeared with the
problem.. turns out that the teefer.sys caused the problem which is a file of
a certain firewall i forgot what, i just uninstall it completely so the next
i turned on the computer its working great, thanks...
