My computer freezes

I am new to computers, I've installed XP home edition got all the updates and now it just freezes the cusor will not move, I have to re-boot it's happened four times now can anyone help? Please!!!!!
 
More information is needed to make an eduacated guess
1. When does it freeze, specifically
2. When you say cursor, do you mean the cursor that preceeds what you type? or do you mean the mouse
3. Is your version a clean install of xp, or did you upgrade from another os, i.e. win 98, ME
4. Have you added any new software? Games, drivers...Anything
 
Make sure that the computer isn't overheating (check that
the CPU fan and any other fans inside the case are running
etc.), since an overheated processor will halt to prevent
further damage. This will usually make the computer stop
responding altogether. In my experience, during software
errors the mouse can still move, so I'd check for
overheating first...
