It used to look like the image found at
www.samspublishing.com/content/images/chap3_078973432x/elementLinks/03fig01.jpg
with all the icons divided up, but after plugging in a friend's external
drive it looks like the image found at at
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3969/untitledyu5.jpg, and I can't figure
out how to change it back (ie, no divisions).

I poked around in the view settings, but nothing seemed to work. I know
it's minor, but it's bothering the hell out of me. So, if anybody knows how
to fix it, I would really appreciate it.

Select Type and tick "Show in groups"

In My Computer, right click on an open spot.
In the menu that pops out move your mouse pointer to "Arrange
Icons by".
Make sure there's a check mark next to "Show in groups".
If not, click on that line.

Good luck

Yeah, I tried that already. It arranges them into groups based on their
first letter (eg, A, J, and C) rather than whether they are "Devices with
Removable Storage" or "Hard Disk Drives."

Any other thoughts?

I take it back. Ayush added the extra step (arrange by type) which I needed
to do first. Worked perfectly.

Thanks guys.
