ive just upgraded from xp and when i click 'computer' in the vista start
menu, explorer hangs. and this ties up system resources big time, although
some tasks seem available.
i have two hard drives one 80g and one 150g. at first, i could not read data
on the second of these, but now I can - i fixed this by disabling the drive
in cmos and disabling in device manager and then reenabling it. both drives
now read fine.

this hasnt fixed the problem - could it be the 'network places' links are
causing the hang??

with this problem i can't see how to access c: in vista, or dvd drives to
run software.

any help around?

Network locations will sometimes slow down displaying the contents of
"Computer". A corrupted file in a drive will sometimes do the same thing. I
have seen similar when leaving a CD/DVD in a drive tray.

Thanks Richard - let me ask yoiu this. How do i delete all those network
places without being able to access 'my computer'. im having trouble finding
a way to c: (sorry am an amateur)

you might be interested to know that starting in safe mode solved this
problem for about five minutes and then blue screened.

event logs also show lucallback proxy is screwing things up - but of course
you have to go to nortons site and down load a 'norton root canal' to remove
that

ive now been working on this for 3 days!
