I have had 2 drives on my computer for a year.. I know all the jumper
settings are correct and as I haven't changed anything.. I did however
install XP Home and now my 2nd drive a western digital isn't listed.
Its in device manager and disk management but nowhere else. I think
this happened before and the drive had to be manually mapped or
something like that but I can't see how to do it. This drive is
formatted and has a TON of stuff that I very much need to get to.
Please help!

Right Click on My Computer, choose Manage, then Disk Management.
Right-click on the drive with no letter and choose Change Drive Letter and
paths...

Alternately, run diskpart, select the disk and partition, and type ASSIGN.

HTH
-pk

That's not an option...

When I right click the drive the only options are

-convert to basic disk
-properties
-help

May depend where you are right-clicking in Disk Management - right-click on
the drive in the upper or lower right portion of Disk Management (ie not
where it says Disk0 or Disk1)

Its not letting me click.. according to the western digital utility the
drive is seen physically but not logically. Does this help at all?

Good luck. I recently went through almost the exact same thing (my 2nd
was not seen by the LDM). Never found the reason and all typical "try
this" answers only work for systems that work properly.

Maybe the Everest utility program will help diagnose
(http://www.lavalys.com/; there's an older, free version around).

It's almost certainly a hardware problem. For my situation, the 2nd
drive was visible in two other PCs I tried it in. So your drive may be
okay.

I eventually determined that the PC my 2nd drive did not work in had a
failing 1st drive, and it eventually stopped working.

But try this: Double check your cable. Sometimes faulty cable can
effect drive performance. Check that the master on the end connector
and the slave inner connector.

If you have a secondary ATA controller (most motherboards do except
newer ones are going to one ATA and one SATA), put your 2nd drive on
the secondary port (you probably have a CD on the secondary).
