Hello. I have two networks connected via a router with a
different domain on each side. Each network has its own
mail server (one Ex 2003 and the other Ex 5.5). I'm
simply trying to route mail back and forth, internally.
We are not connected to the Internet. Now when using
telnet, I can successfully send mail between the systems.
However, when using the Outlook client, the mail gets
caught in the queue. I did add MX records for each mail
server on its respective server. What else am I missing?
Am I missing additional A records, etc.?

Do you have a copy of the other domain's zone in the local zone and vice
versa so they can resolve each other?

Did you properly create the MX record?
eg
create a new record called mail
then create an MX record, leave the host name blank, but the bottom part,
browse to mail.domain.com.
