I'm having a hard time believing that one of our
esteemed MVP's hasn't picked up on my post
of 7/14, "Progress Bars".

Although I can't remember the Registry Key at
the moment, there is a key that pertains to the
show or suppressing of the progress bar as jpg
files are loading. The present problem is the
loading of jpg images as Access 2003 links and
loads jpg images into Access reports.

Thanks for any assistance.

Bill

That was the first place I asked, but no replies.

(I knew a Wes Vogel at IBM San Jose years ago,
that wouldn't be you would it?)

Bill

Not me, Bill.

Have you asked about Wes Vogel at IBM San Jose before?

If it wasn't you that asked, there's somebody else that knew him. ;-)

As far as I can tell, there are less than 10 Wes Vogels in the country. And
to think that when I was a kid, I hated the name Wesley. Go figure.

Maybe you could refine the search here...
Microsoft Office Search: progrss bar

And here...

No, this is the first inquiry I've made of Wes. We had about
3500 folks in the Development Lab at one point. I think Wes
was involved in DASD control units, though I'm not sure about
that. Anyway, there are a lot of IBM retirees on the net these
days, so I'm not too surprised you've been asked before.

I'll check the site you suggested.

Thanks,
Bill

There are SEVERAL Registry keys pertaining to
the importing of JPEG images.... I think I counted
five. Anyway, it wasn't entirely clear which one
necessarily related to imports resulting from LINKS
specified in the Picture property of an image object
in Access Reports.

Since I don't ever want to be bothered by progress
bars flashing up anywhere, I set them all to "No".

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
SharedTools\Graphics Filters\Import\JPEG\Options
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
SharedTools\Graphics Filters\Import\JPEG\Options

are two of the keys encountered and it was probably
the latter that pertained to Access.

Bill

I meant to add that those two keys refer to all MS Office programs and some
MS Works programs.

Settings in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

This key contains paths for all Windows applets such as Equation, WordArt,
and Microsoft Graph. Paths for graphics filters and text converters are also
registered in this location. There are two keys here that pertain especially
to Word. One is the Graphics Filters key, which registers the import and
export filters, and the other is the Text Converters key, which registers
import and export converters. In addition, each filter and converter is
registered individually. A list of clients using a filter, converter, or
applet is listed under each tool.

A Google search for "Show Progress Dialog" proved to be the
most valuable. I didn't find anything at Microsoft.

Hummmm........HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE was the first key
I used and after setting the JPEG options to "No" the progress
bar continued to appear. (I did re-boot to see if the option was
only read at startup.) That's when I decided to do the exhaustive
search for all the JPEG options. There might be a peculiarity as
that option relates to Access 2003?
