The computer is not mine, I'm just using it, I suspect there is no
sound card here . In "Audio" tab under "Sound playback" I have "No
playback devices", under "Sound recording" -"No sound recording
devices", under "MIDI music playback" - "MPU-401"

onboard sound on the motherboard) so you have no means of generating
noise. So just what noise are you trying to mute since the computer
isn't capable of making any (beyond the beeps from the speaker and from
hard drives and fans)? You cannot mute a device unless you actually
have it. How are you going to use mute on a telephone you don't have?
