Whenever my sysytem is shut off. It will not reboot without going through a
re-activation. How can I resolve this?

Thank you

Thank you for the help. I read the ACTIVATION TROUBLE paragraphs and was
able to sucessfully perform Par #1. Do outward change, still had to
reactivate.

Para # 2 suggests starting in SAFE mode and removing two HKEY_USERS
file/folders. I have neither of the two "CRYPTOGRAPHY\PROVIDERS" files in my
system.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again, Jim

Hi Jim,

Do a search for reset5.exe on the drive. Does it exist?

Hi Jim,

Sorry for the delay.

The last case I had with this issue was fixed by installing SP2. Have
you installed SP2?

I have updated as I have been prompted but cannot tell you if I have
installed SP2 as one of those updates. Is there an easy way to check?

Thanks Jim

Very easy. Just do this: In the Start menu, right-click on My Computer and
select Properties from the context menu that opens. You're now looking at
the General tab of System Properties. If you've got SP 2, it'll say so right
there.

Go to Windows Update.

I'm telling you this next part because I'm your friend: Service Pack 2 is a
major upgrade to your operating system. This ain't Microsoft Hearts (which
sucks.) Be smart and prepare thoroughly before you install SP 2.

"Windows XP Service Pack 2"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

In particular, don't miss this:

"What to Know Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service Pack 2"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

....and this:

"Detailed installation walkthrough for Windows XP Service Pack 2"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875364.

Do not install Service Pack 2 unless or until your computer is stable and
error free.
