Music track (displayed audio levels) out of sync with actual music

Hello.
I'm trying to sync up a music track of mine to some still images appearing
at the same moment as a cymbal crash in the music, which I can see in the
timeline view of the music track.
I have dragged the mp3 song to the Audio/Music timeline where the audio
levels appear correctly. However when I press play, the actual audio is out
of sync by about 3 seconds with the visual timeline.

I am running Movie Maker version 2 on an XP Pro OS with the latest SP2
updates.

What am I doing wrong?
