Music in Powerpoint 2003?

I am creating a holiday Powerpoint show which I am going to e-mail to friends
once complete. I am going to put in a music file with it and I wanted to
know how I could do this and keep the music within the presentation so that
it can be heard on each computer that receives it. I know it can be done
since I have received these kinds of presentations by e-mail which included
music many times, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you.

Additional Info:
OS - Windows XP SP1
Program - MS Powerpoint 2003

Thank you for your response and this was definitely helpful. However, I am
using a song from a cd so I don't quite understand how I am supposed to
"start with a WAV file." I read the page you suggested, and I am still a
little confused. It is not giving me the 'exact' answer I am looking for.
Can you elaborate a little more? Thank you.

You have to "rip" the sound track from the CD and create a file on your hard
drive. From there you insert the file in your presentation. You can use google
to locate CD rippers, but a good one is "Audiograbber".

Spirit,
You need to "rip" the music from the CD to a file of WAV format. You can't
do that from within PPT, you will need a separate piece of software for it.
You can search Google for one of the other tools.

Hey Steve - You awake out there? Okay - when you are, could you do me a
favor? Can you add the "ripping" information to an FAQ entry? Sonia only
beat me to making the post because I couldn't find the name of the product
she always recommends.

Whatcha think?

Wow, you guys have been extremely helpful and I can't thank you enough.
After having read your replies, it dawned on me that WAV files can be very
large. Since I will be e-mailing this PPT to others, wouldn't it be a good
idea to link the PPT and music file to a website instead? This way, people
using AOL and the like can view it without worrying about Inbox limits. I
have a little 'rinky-dink' web page through Yahoo! and I would love to put it
on that page if it would make life easier. If this is at all possible, can
provide me with a link to a web page which would describe this process in
detail? Again, I appreciate all your help. Thank you.

P.S. You Microsoft MVPs are awesome! Keep up the good work.

Good idea. And I've rewritten largish chunks of this to make it clearer.

Play sounds across multiple slides (A WAV runs through it)

What Sonia said. But as an alternative, use the links provided to EMBED the WAV
sound in your PPT file, then put the PPT file up on the web and send people a
link to it.

Both linking and inbox problems will be solved with the PPT (with embedded
sound) on a web site. It's the kinder, gentler thing to do.
