This is very common - unfortunately the solution is not
common. Infact I cannot find a solution at all.

Ive stripped my machine down to its bare essentials & I
still cannot boot into safe mode. It just re-boots after
mup.sys is loaded.

Actually I have 2 machines affected by this - they are
both my backups, so now Im REALLY PISSED at having so much
hardware & all its data totally USELESS.

This problem - if it affects my 1 remaining machine IT
COULD MAKE ME BANKRUPT.

I've disabled USB in the BIOS - really Ive tried
everything. I cannot even do a fresh install of windows.

I have files I need on the hard drive - FDisc is not an
option.

I have done the google search & tried everything. Sureley
theres someone I can sue? Id rather have my data back
though.

Why is there no solution from microsoft for this VERY
common problem?

Do I throw away my 2 computers & wait for my laptop to die
as well?

MAN, Im sooo pissed off at this

Are you comfortable with, and have you attempted to do a "repair
install" on one of your PCs? You could also put a different hard drive
in one of the machines and see if XP will install/work on it? That will
verify the PC is OK and that the problem is Software or the other drive
itself.

Thanks for your input Rob.

Repair install didnt work. Swapping hard drives around as
you described was my solution for recovering the data ..
however I may have found the problem.
I just changed my RAM ... & it works!
I tried that on my first pc (with the same problem), & it
didnt work, so i ruled out faulty RAM as the cause - but
maybe both the cards were faulty?
Kinda embarrasing really, though Ive seen lots of posts
from people with the same problem who claim that their RAM
is fine, or that the problem re-appeared after a short
time.

Anyway my main backup pc is working again, so I gotta get
back to work & make up some lost time.

Thanks again.
