Multiple users and dial-up networking

I use Bigpond ISDN for internet and have multiple users or profiles on my
home computer. I have just reinstalled Windows XP Pro and I'm getting the
following message:

Windows Message
The dial-up networking connection 'Bigpond' is currently active. Would you
like to close this connection?
Yes or No.

On the last reinstall, I managed to get rid of this message, but I can't
remember how I did it and neither can I find any reference to it in Windows
Help.

We like to be able to keep the connection alive while passing from one user
to another seamlessly, without having to answer this question. Unnecessary
questions are not helpful to less than computer savvy family members (my
wife).

Thanks

John

Adding a key to registry is a bit dodgy if you don't know what you're doing,
so I added a restore point and backed up the registry. Here goes. I will
now reboot.

Well it seems to be OK. I made a new key called KeepRasConnections under
Winlogon and either there appeared or I made another value (Default), type
REG_SZ with the value of 1. Please let me know if I've done something wrong.

Exporting some of the registry into a text file, it looks like this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\KeepRasConnections]

@="1"

Is that OK?

Thanks

John

Hi John,

That's wrong. You need to create a new Value named KeepRasConnections (but you have created a new "key")

---------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"KeepRasConnections"=dword:00000001

---------------------------------------

OK, now I deleted the key from registry and added a Dword value to the Winlogon key and gave it a value of 1. An extract from registry now reads:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

and then quite a few lines of other stuff, probably various types of values and the last one being:

"KeepRasConnections"=dword:00000001

Now that looks more like what you have.

Thanks

John

I fixed this a few days ago and it's working fine.
