Multiple SMTP Servers

My ISP is Cox Cable at home and Cox Business Services at work. Every
day I have to change the smtp host config when I bring my laptop from
home to work and back again. Can Outlook be set up with both hosts
and if the first one fails, it'll try the second one?

Why not set up two accounts, one for each SMTP host? Alternatively, create
two mail profiles, one for each and select the one you want when you start
Outlook.

I tried to set up a second account for the other smtp host as you
suggested, but it needs a pop host before I can exit the setup screen.
Should I just duplicate the pop info from the first account for this,
or could that cause some kind of undesirable interaction like
duplicate messages?

I was not familiar with profiles so I read the help article, "Outlook
e-mail profiles explained". Based on this, it looks like I'd have to
shut down Outlook to switch profiles. I may be wrong but I believe
that continuing to change SMTP servers as I do now may be faster.
However, if I decide to add a second profile, can both use the same
message store?

Diane,
On further testing I found that Outlook 2003 apparently caches it's
smtp server data. Even after "ipconfig /flushdns", it uses the cached
entry until I restart Outlook. Is there a way to reset the mail
account cache?

The reason this is an issue for me is I usually put my laptop into
hybernation between home and work rather than closing the application.

By the way, Outlook Tips is a great site. Thanks!

Bob

You can put whatever you want for the POP server is you never expect to
receive any messages on that account. After creating the account, modify
the Send/Receive group to not include that account when receiving.

Yes, you do have to stop and restart Outlook to switch profiles. Yes, you
can reference the same message store in each profile.
