Hi,

I have just partitioned my newly purchased 120 GB using Partition Magic. My
old 40 GB drive contains Windows XP Home as the OS. On my new 120 GB drive,
the first 10 GB is allocated for OS; the OS here that I want is Windows XP
Pro, which my school gave free to the students.

Apparently PowerQuest Boot Magic included with their Partition Magic only
allows installing XP on the first drive "to avoid complexities". Can I
install XP Pro on the second drive? Would the installation be as simple as
booting from the CD? Would the computer be confused at boot-up as to which
OS I want to use? If someone would provide a step-by-step instructions, I
would be most thankful.

Thank you

Thanks

Hi,
Can I install XP Pro on the second drive?
Yes.

Would the installation be as simple as booting from the CD?

Yes, just boot it and start the installer, choose new install, not upgrade
(actually, I don't think the academic version will do an upgrade anyways).
When prompted for the installation location, simply indicate a partition on
the new drive.
Would the computer be confused at boot-up as to which OS I want to use?

No, setup will see the original installation and modify the existing boot
files to give you an option at boot for which system to boot. There is no
need to use Boot Magic for this sort of installation.
If someone would provide a step-by-step instructions, I would be most
thankful.

Really, you already have everything you need. This is amongst the simplest
dual-boots to set up.

Just to muddle the issue a bit -- I installed WinXP "Academic Upgrade" on my
machine. Doesn't resolve the issue of wether or not the Academic Full
version will do an upgrade, but it does add another OS version to the
list...
