Hi Simon,
Limitation is that you must use a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)
or Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) video adapter to take advantage of
multiple monitors, so you might not be able to take advantage of
multiple-monitor functionality on older systems.
Third-party companies, such as Color Graphics, MATROX, STB, INTERGRAPH,
ALTEX Electronics, and other companies provide solutions to multiple
monitor support for Windows.
MORE INFORMATION
Color Graphics has a full line that support anywhere from two to eight
monitors. The Color Graphics cards are based on the S3 chip set.
MATROX Millennium video cards in the same computer support multiple
monitors.
STB Inc. provides the MVP-2X dual SVGA video card (ISA) with Microsoft
Windows NT drivers supplied by STB. The card comes with MS-DOS, Windows
3.1, and OS/2 drivers. In addition, STB provides model MVP2X/MC for Micro
Channel.
Other manufacturers that provide the capability of multiple screens are
ALTEX Electronics and INTERGRAPH. These manufacturers make video cards with
multiple VGA chips on them that drive several monitors in a video wall
arrangement spread across 2, 4, 8, or 16 screens.
Windows 2000 also includes built-in Multiple Monitor Support.
