Multiple monitors - no default

I have a user - who of course did NOTHING to make this happen! LOL - using
multiple monitors and he doesn't have the ability to have both the laptop
and monitor show the same thing. I have no idea what the BLEEP he
did....also there is no "default" in the properties, just the "multiple
monitor" in the drop down.

Anyone have any idea where I start on this one?
 
press whatever buttons the laptop provides for that feature. maybe Fn +
F7 but read the manual to verify.
 
Sorry, guess I should have said that I have tried the obvious......looking
for something deeper.

Is the external monitor showing anything? If it is dead(black) and the
"Fn + F7" won't bring it to life, you have a hardware problem. Cable,
connectors, monitor, maybe possible the vid card.
