Hello,

I have had a quick scoot on this site for multiple monitors, but didn't
contain quite what I was looking for. Can you help?

I would like to use WindowsXP pro with two monitors running on one
machine. I would like one application to be running on one screen, and
another application on another.

I am not sure exactly what I need to acomplish this. I have a basic
DELL, and would guess a good start would be to purchase a graphic card
with another display out! :-)

Any help regarding settings, and how this actually works would be most
appreciated.
Thank you,

~ Paul

Hey Paul,

Standard Dells I have worked on may have an integrated video as well as a
video card. This configuration does not work.

Easiest way is to install a dual output card. You should be able to pick up
a nvidia 5200 AGP8x or PCI Xpress16 for around $ 59. If you have a monitor
with analog and 1 with a Digital input you will have everything you need.
However if both monitors are analog, i.e. 15 pin vga then you will need an
adapter. Here it gets trickier, there are 2 types of digital, DVI-D 24pin
and DVI-I 29 pin, basically most adapters are DVI-I that I have seen.

I suppose they may make a card with dual analog output, however digital is
better.

Once you have the correct equipment, dual display is built into th display
properties of XP or you can utilize the software with the display card.

It is a breeze once you do it and you can not live without it afterwards.

Good Luck

Paul, I am sure others will step in with more infomation, but see this
Newsgroup thread:

Note this post in the thread:
"You can check the following database to see if your proposed card(s) have
been used successfully in a multi-monitor setting:"

Here is a search of this forum through Google Groups for the term "second
monitor":

That is great!

Thank you all very much for your help. I didn't realise it would be so
easy.
I guess the next thing for me now is to check out my current graphic
capability, and see what I can do.

A sincere thank you to all of you who have helped!

~ Paul
