Multiple file/folder selection

I have Windows XP Pro and have recently come across a
problem when trying to select multiple Folders or Files
within Explorer or Outlook i.e. One should be able to
highlight an item and then holding down "Shift" select
another item and all items between will be selected,
similarly one should be able to select random items by
holding down "Ctrl". This facility has stopped working and
I can't think what might have caused this to occur. I
don't have any other issues, system is up to date with all
fixes, virus definitions etc. Because most of the updates
are automatic I can't say what change may have caused this
problem. Anyone know of a solution?

This doesn't work everywhere, but does work. Are you comparing apple to
apple? If so, which XP Service Pack(s) do you have installed?

Hi Kelly,

Many thanks for responding. I have all updates from MS applied (incl Service Pack 1). The facility use'd to work within Explore and Outlook (still does on my Laptop) but now if I select Ctrl or Shift the mouse momentarily (nano second) freezes as though this function is being locked. Because it's not a function I use daily I can't pinpoint what changed triggered off this annoyance. I was hoping that a registry entry change would resolve this, I don't want to reinstall the operating system software unless I have to!

Again, if you or anyone else knows a fix it would save me a lot of time - many thanks

Neil
